Prof. Raymond Cheng received his training and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the “Big Four” in London. He specialises in corporate audits and has extensive experience in auditing companies in different industries, most especially financial services industry. As the Firm’s Chairman, Prof. Raymond Cheng leads the Firm by formulating strategies that contribute to the continual growth of the Firm. He is also Head of the Firm’s Regulatory and Financial Industries Group which is specialized in reporting to the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), and the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
Prof. Raymond Cheng is involved closely with special assignments including due diligence reviews for mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings (IPO), advising clients on corporate restructuring, and special investigations. He specialises in acting as reporting accountants and auditors in IPOs and for companies listed on Hong Kong (HKEx) and overseas exchanges (Nasdaq, SGX, CSE and LSE).
Prof. Raymond Cheng was the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) for the 2020-2021 session. He was first elected as a Council Member at the 2010 AGM and has served on the Council since then (for 13 consecutive years). He has been taking up positions in various committees of the HKICPA since 1998. Prof. Raymond Cheng has been actively involved in the development of accounting profession through his leadership and participation in a wide range of HKICPA Committees. He was the Chairman of the Qualification Oversight Board, the Chairman of the Nomination Committee, the Chairman of the Task Force on the Financial Reporting Council Assessment on HKICPA, the Chairman of the Best Corporate Governance and ESG Awards Judging Panel, the Deputy Chairman of the Ethics Committee and the Deputy Chairman of the Audit Profession Reform Working Group.
As well as running business, Prof. Raymond Cheng’s earnest commitment to the community is attested by his sterling public services including his involvements with the Department of Accountancy at City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Securities and Futures Appeals Tribunal of Hong Kong (SFAT). In addition, Prof. Raymond Cheng was elected as a Committee Member of 2016-2021 Chief Executive of the HKSAR Election Committee (Accountancy Subsector). Prof. Raymond Cheng serves as a member of the Departmental Advisory Panel and in 2023, he has been appointed as Adjunct Professor of the Department of Accountancy, City University of Hong Kong.
Prof. Raymond Cheng was a Committee Member of the CPPCC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee (廣西壯族自治區政協委員會委員). He is the President of Hong Kong Guangxi Past CPPCC Members Friendship Association Limited, Vice President of the 5th Council of The Anhui Fraternity Association (Hong Kong) Limited, Permanent President of The Hong Kong Guangxi Association of Professionals Limited, Council Member and Deputy Secretary General of the Guangxi Overseas Friendship Association, Vice President of Federation of HK Guangxi Community Organisations Limited, Council Founding Member & Honorary President of Institute of Accountants Exchange, and Core Founding Member of the Young Accountants Association. He is also a Member of each of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executive Association, the Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies and the Hong Kong United Youth Association Limited.
