HKICPA President Raymond Cheng told media about upcoming consultation paper on “one member one vote” for election of HKICPA’s President and other topical issues

Mr. Raymond Cheng, Chairman of HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng Limited and President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), has told media that the HKICPA will soon issue a consultation paper on “one member one vote” for the election of the HKICPA’s President and Vice-Presidents.

Mr. Cheng also talked about other topical issues, including investigating the issue of long working hours in Hong Kong’s accounting profession, supporting Small-and-Medium Practitioners in digitalization, legal and compliance issues for accountants, and HKICPA’s response to HKEX’s recent consultation on proposal to increase the profit requirements for Main Board listing applicants.

President's Message

As the Institute’s new President for 2021, Mr. Raymond Cheng delivered his President’s Message to members, under the headline: “The Institute has an important role to play in helping our members to recover from the challenges of the pandemic and harness new opportunities in the future.” Mr. Cheng also laid out 10 focus areas for the Institute for 2021, as well as the Institute’s 2021-22 budget proposals.

HLB Hong Kong’s Chairman, Mr. Raymond Cheng, was interviewed by Online News Portal HK01 on 19 October 2020 about the contingency plan for the December 2020 session of the Qualification Programme Examinations of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“HKICPA”).

As the longest-serving elected Council Member of the HKICPA, Mr. Cheng is also the Chairman of HKICPA’s Qualification Oversight Board, whose terms of reference include overseeing the performance and operations of the HKICPA’s Education & Training Department and Admission Department, and matters pertaining to student education and training as well as member registration and licensing.

Despite challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the HKICPA remains committed to developing Hong Kong’s accounting profession, and ensuring there is a sustainable and capable supply of suitably trained new accountants ready to take up roles and support Hong Kong’s development.

Mr. Raymond Cheng, Chairman of HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng Limited and Convenor of Mid-Tier Firm Alliance (MFA), was invited to the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in audit regulation between the Supervision and Evaluation Bureau (SEB) of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Repiblic of China and the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 22 May 2019. Over a hundred honourable guests attended the Ceremony to witness the signing of the MOU which marked a new page of cross-boundary collaboarion on audit regulation.
